Serkalem is 16 years old and is grade zero, she has not attended school. She is from the Amhara region, an area slightly north of the capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, where she currently lives.
She likes all food but her favorite is Misir wot with injera. She loves to watch movies. Due to a bad head injury when she was one, Serkalem has never attended school, but her goal is to learn a trade and have her own business in the future. Serkalem has felt friendless due to her injury, but Onesimus has been working to fill that gap and shown her love and friendship.
Serkalem and her family are now living in Addis Ababa because they were displaced from their home due to the ongoing war in northern Ethiopia. She is currently living with her mom and sister, Amognesh, who is also in the Onesimus sponsorship program. Serkalem and her family lost her dad due to the war.
Serkalem is seeking sponsorship due to poverty. Her mom is not working since moving to Addis Ababa, and has no income to support her family. Sponsorship will help provide her basic needs such as food, medical supplies, and clothing, as well as teaching her a trade to earn money in the future, since her head injury has led to a learning disability that prevents her from succeeding in a school program.
